Robbie Williams & Gary Barlow – Shame | Single Review - “Shame” adalah sebuah lagu pop klasik yang dinyanyikan bersama oleh Robbie Williams dan Gary Barlow, diambil dari koleksi Greatest Hits kedua Robbie Williams berjudul “In and Out of Consciousness”. Single ini akan dirilis sebagai single utama dari album tersebut pada tanggal 4 Oktober 2010 mendatang oleh Virgin Records. Single “Shame” juga merupakan kolaborasi pertama kali mereka sejak Robbie Williams meninggalkan Take That pada tahun 1995.

Musik Videonya sudah ditayangkan pada tanggal 26 Agustus 2010 dimana video tersebut direkam di sebuah tempat bernama Cowboy Palace Saloon pada bulan Juni 2010. Seperti yang kalian lihat, Video tersebut memiliki tema yang lebih fokus pada hubungan antara Gary Barlow dan Robbie Williams, perasaan Robbie Williams setelah dia meninggalkan Take That pada tahun 1995 – 15 tahun yang lalu – untuk mengejar solo karir, dan tentang perasaan Robbie setelah Take That berkumpul kembali tanpa dirinya dan mencapai sukses yang belum pernah terjadi sebelumnya.

Riff gitar sederhana sebagai pembuka lagu ini, terdengar sangat mirip dengan suasana dalam film Brokeback Mountain, demikian dengan interpresi vocal di awal lagu. Namun, bagian yang tidak akan terlupakan dari lagu ini adalah ketika mereka berdua bernyanyi secara bersama seolah-seolah menggambarkan kesengitan yang terjadi selama 15 tahun telah mencair dalam sebuah lagu yaitu “Shame”.

Ya, sangat disayangkan sekali jika kita terlalu menjaga ego kita jika kenyataannya kita saling membutuhkan. Jelas sekali bahwa lagu ini mengisahkan tentang sebuah hubungan yang terjalin sekarang dimana sebelumnya bermasalah.

Setelah saya mendengar dan melihat video lagu ini, saya berkesimpulan bahwa “Shame” sepenuhnya bercerita tentang persahabatan, tentang “BroRomance” – Romantisasi persahabatan. Maksudnya, hubungan antara dua pria ini sangat dekat sekali, kelihatannya seperti sahabat tapi sebenarnya lebih cocok disebut saudara.

IMROEE | Single Review: Katy Perry – Teenage Dream - Setiap dari kita pastinya punya mimpi saat remaja dulu atau kamu yang sekarang masih remaja. Seperti kata orang bahwa bermimpi itu penting, karena dengan bermimpi kita punya tujuan hidup yang selalu menyemangati kita menempuh penjalanan lika-liku hidup ini hingga sampai pada tujuan sebagaimana mimpi itu. Namun, terlalu sering bermimpi tanpa diimbangi dengan usaha untuk meraihnya membuat kita disebut sebagai Tukang Hanyal. Dan hal itulah yang membedakan antara Pemimpi dengan Tukang Hanyal dimana Tukan Hanyal lebih kepada mengejar hantu.

Salah satu mungkin yang banyak menjadi mimpi remaja adalah ingin menjadi seorang gadis seperti dalam cerita Cinderella – tentang seorang gadis yang malang dan karena keajaiban ia bisa tinggal di istana sebagai istri pangeran. Tapi itu untuk para cewek, bagi para cowok mungkin ingin memiliki kekasih seperti gadis dalam cerita Cinderella tersebut yang penuh ketulusan dan tentu saja cinta.

Namun di sini saya tidak akan membahas mengenai bagaimana menggapai mimpi atau tentang cerita Cinderella yang saya sebutkan di atas. Di sini saya akan membahas sedikit tentang single kedua Gadis Cantik bernama Katy Perry berjudul “Teenage Dream” yang diambil dari album yang berjudul sama.

Dalam “Teenage Dream”, Katy Perry mengekspresikan bagaimana perasaan dia seperti merasa muda, terasa begitu nyata hanya dengan satu sentuhan. Musik dibuka dengan permainan melodi halus nan indah yang langsung disambung dengan vokal falsetto Katy Perry yang berbertahan beberapa saat sampai akhirnya meledak dalam sebuah chorus – hook yang sarat akan kesan tentang seseorang yang membuat dia merasa remaja dan tidak ingin melihat kebelakang lagi.

Sebelum Chrous, Katy Perry juga bernyanyi dengan penuh kesan romantis hingga vokal khasnya menyatu dengan keriuhan gitar listrik dan beat-beat yang mendebar-debarkan jantung. Kesan terhadap lagu ini adalah, katy berhasil mempertahankan kualitas universal dalam “Teenage Dream”, tentang suara, musik, dan liriknya.

Dan sekali lagi, “Teenage Dream” adalah lagu yang menyenangkan dan sangat menghibur, menggabungkan lirik manis dengan perpaduan pop ceria. Dan senang sekali rasanya Katy Perry kembali ke akar pop-rock-nya, dia hadir dalam lagu ini sebagai dirinya sendiri, bukan bayi Ke$ha yang baru kemarin lahir seperti dalam ‘California Gurls’.

Setelah album pertama tahun 2008 mereka berhasil terjual 1.8 Juta keping secara global, sekarang saatnya untuk mendengarkan single terbaru dari band asal Irlandia ini berjudul ‘For The First Time’.

Scissor Sisters – Fire With Fire | Single Review - Banyak seniman, saat meluncurkan album pertama mereka akan mendapat sukses yang wajar, dengan album kedua yang sedikit lebih baik dari album pertama, akan semakin mengukuhkan nama mereka di dunia musik. Pola seperti ini terjadi pada seniman-seniman musik seperti Plain B, Lily Allen, the Kaiser Chiefs, dll. Tapi bagaimana dengan artis yang memutuskan untuk berbelok arah, ketika album kedua mereka gagal untuk menyambung kesuksesan di album pertama?

Scissor Sisters punya pengalaman semacam itu, Anda tengok kembali pada tahun 2004, mereka merilis album debut eponymous yang bertahan beberapa minggu di puncak Tangga lagu album di Irlandia dan Inggris dengan ganjaran platinum sebanyak tujuh kali. Tapi kedatangan mereka di album kedua tahun 2006 ‘Ta-Dah!’ tidak sesukses di album pertama tapi single dance I Don’t Feel Like Dancing berhasil mencapai puncak tangga lagu inggris.

Hal itu tidak mengherankan kemudian, bahwa ketika Scissor Sisters mengumumkan akan kembali ke studio rekaman, satu tahun kemudian, Jake Shears akhirnya berjalan keluar dan mengambil libur panjang di jalan-jalan dan klub malam Berlin untuk mendapatkan ‘inspirasi musik’, karena ingin segera mengeluarkan album yang lain setelah buru-buru menulis lagu yang memakan waktu tidak sampai dua tahun, jelas mengurangi kreativitas dan persahabatan dengan seluruh anggota group.

Jadi sekarang, empat tahun setelah ‘Ta-Dah!’ dirilis, Scissor Sisters telah kembali bersama album-brand baru berjudul Nightwork dengan lagu-lagu yang lebih sensual dan super nakal. Tapi setelah mendengarkan lead single mereka Fire With Fire, single ini bukanlah bertemakan soal seks atau hal kotor lainnya. Sebaliknya Fire With Fire merupakan lagu yang penuh semangat, ceria, anthemic, hikayat hidup sesungguhnya-tentang kebangkitan menghadapi rintangan dan melawan “Api Dengan Api”. Jadi punya pesan yang baik, dan punya hook-hook vokal yang mudah diingat.

Yah, memang sedikit menipu single mereka yang satu ini, dimulai dengan nuansa balada dengan vokal Jake terdengar seperti Elton John saat masih muda, serta iringan piano sebagai pemanasan. Tapi bagaimana lagu ini berkembang secara perlahan-lahan dari lagu balada ke lagu dance merupakan sesuatu yang khusus dan keren tentunya, dan yang paling asyik adalah bagian Chorus “You said fight fire with fire, fire with fire, fire with fire / Through desire, desi- sire, desi-, through your desire” yang berhasil dibawakan tanpa cacat. Memang single ini dipengaruhi oleh sedikit U2, Elton John, dan elemen-elemen Take That ditambahkan dalam takaran yang baik. Namun terkadang mendengarkan Fire With Fire akan mengingatkan kita dengan Human-nya The Killers.

Morcheeba – Even Though | Single Review -- Skye Edwards kembali bergabung dengan Morcheeba setelah pada tahun 2003 Godfrey bersaudara mendepak dirinya karena adanya perbedaan dalam hal bermusik dan juga beberapa masalah pribadi. Dengan ciri khas mereka, Morcheeba kembali hadir mempersembahkan album ketujuh mereka dengan usapan instrumental dalam single pertama, “Even Though”. Single ini berhasil menarik perhatian saya dengan vokal Skye Edwards mengalun lembut kental dengan nuansa penuh penjiwaan.

David Archuleta – Something ‘Bout Love | Single Review - Single terbaru dari album sophomore David Archuleta yang sangat diantisipasi sekarang bisa di-streaming secara eksklusif di situs remisnya.

“Something ‘Bout Love” sangat berbeda dari semua musik yang pernah kita dengarkan pada album debut self-titled David Archuleta tahun 2008 lalu. Brandon Flowers – Crossfire | Single Review - Frontman The Killers, Brandon Flowers, mengeluarkan single pertama dari album project solonya, Flamingo, berjudul Crossfire, yang katanya dirilis pada tanggal 21 Juni sedangkan untuk albumnya akan dirilis pada bulan September.

Ada yang mengatakan bahwa Crossfire terlalu U2 dan Pet Shop Boys, terdengar sedikit lebih mirip sesuatu dari era Sam’s Town, Crossfire yang tidak sebaik Mr. Brightside, seperti Muse, dll. Entahlah, yang saya lakukan hanyalah mendengarkan single ini dan tenggelam di dalamnya.

“We’re caught in the crossfire of Heaven and Hell, and we’re searching for shelter” adalah dimana Brandon Flowers berteriak lembut selama anthemic chorus tersebut, bersiap-siap melanjutkan sebaris lirik yang menjadi bagian terbaik dari single ini, yakni pengulangan “Lay your body down, lay your body down” dengan teknik falseto yang sangat apik dan memikat. God..., keren bangetz!

Brandon Flowers benar-benar telah berekspansi menjadi seorang penyanyi yang unik dan luar biasa. Dia akhirnya menemukan suaranya, kembali membuat lagu yang catchy dan menghibur untuk didengarkan.

Dave Barnes – Little Lies | Single Review - Permainan melidius gitar akustik membuka Little Lies dan chorus “La la la la la la / These little lies / La la la la la la / These little lies” yang sangat catchy menjadi bagian yang sangat menarik dari lagu ini. Saya sendiri begitu terkesan saat pertama kali mendengarkan Little Lies dan tidak perlu berpikir panjang untuk menyukainya; mudah cerna tanpa harus membeli mesin penggiling membantu melumatkan setiap nada-nada dalam single ini.

Di samping itu, Little Lies sendiri menyajikan vokal riang ceria meski lebih condong menghibur diri atas retaknya sebuah hubungan (‘We both know, we don’t sing along’ dan ‘And I’m sorry for hurting you’) bukannya bercerita tentang kebahagiaan, serta lirik yang lebih mengeksplorasi kekuatan kata-kata seperti “Words can be daffodils / Or a fire in an open field / I’m sitting here in the ash / Stupid words, I can’t take back”. Kata-kata memang bisa membuat hati berbunga-bunga tapi bisa juga menyalakan api membakar amarah meretakkan hubungan – kata-kata bodoh yang sudah dilontarkan tidak dapat ambil kembali seperti ludah yang tidak mungkin untuk dijilat kembali. – {IMO}-

Biffy Clyro – Bubbles | Single Review - Biffy Clyro adalah sebuah kelompok yang benar-benar aneh, album pertama mereka adalah salah satu wadah menumpahkan pendapat tersebut. Anda mungkin adalah salah satu dari yang orang yang setuju setelah mendengar chord pertama pada lagu pertama mereka atau Anda hanya tidak menyadarinya. Tenth Avenue North – Healing Begins | Single Review - Tenth Avenue North telah menikmati kesuksesannya sebagai bintang baru Christian Music ketika debut album mereka Over and Underneath berhasil terjual 200.000 copy dan meroket sebagai salah satu band yang dikenal di jajaran band Christian Music. Musik mereka siap untuk dinikmati oleh para pecinta musik terutama pencinta Christian Music. Hal semacam itu tercermin dalam lagu-lagu mereka yang mencerminkan proses mencakup segala hal tentang bagaimana kedatangan Tuhan dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan kita, tentang perubahan hati, tetesan air mata, pembentukan kembali prioritas kita, dan menebus kesalahan kita dalam perlindungan kasih-Nya sebagai orang percaya.

Dengan mendengarkan, jelas Mike Donehey, Jeff Owen dan Jason Jamison mengambil langkah berani untuk maju dalam perjalanan musik mereka. Band yang berasal dari Florida ini muncul dengan sambil membawa pesan, membuat mereka melaju ke tingkat yang lebih berpengalaman sebagai musisi dan intensitas bermusiknya yang benar-benar terasah.

Donkeyboy – Ambitions | Single Review - Donkeyboy adalah band pop synth dari Drammen, Norwegia. Band ini terbentuk pada tahun 2005. Anggota per Juni 2009 adalah Cato Sundberg (vocals, rhythm guitar) Kent Sundberg (synth, backing vocals) Peter Michelsen (guitar, backing vocals), Thomas Drabløs (drums), and Alexander Garborg Ågedal (bass guitar).

Single pertama mereka, “Ambitions”, dirilis oleh label Warner Music Norwegia pada tanggal 30 Maret 2009. Ternyata Album debut mereka “Caught In A Life” yang dirilis pada tanggal 19 Oktober 2009 lalu secara umum diterima dengan baik dan mendapat sertifikat platinum di Norwegia. Linnea Dale, mantan finalis Idol Norwegia, adalah guest singer di single pertama, “Ambitions”. Donkeyboy juga berhasil memenangkan tiga kategori salah satu music award yang terkenal di norwegia “Spellemannsprisen” untuk Best video, Best newcomer dan This years hit untuk single “Ambitions” pada tanggal 3 Juni 2010.

Yang menarik dari Donkeyboy adalah ketika mendengarkan musik mereka, emosi akan terbawa ke dalam pengalaman hidup Cato dan Kenta. Semua kerja keras mereka dituangkan ke dalam musik, sehingga mampu menghasilkan single seperti ‘Ambitions’ dengan aroma synth-pop dipadu dengan melodi super catchy serta vokal yang apik menyertainya. “Awalnya, kami hanya bermain di ruang bawah tanah rumah orang tua kami,” kata Cato. “Tidak ada yang tahu siapa kami. Sekarang anak-anak menghentikan kami di jalan untuk meminta tanda tangan. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa mereka menerima music kami dan hal itu adalah baik bagi kami untuk menjadi ‘role models’ positif.”

Setelah saya mendengar lagu-lagu yang terkenal di tahun 80-an seperti ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ (Whitney Houston), ‘Billie Jean’ (Michael Jackson), ‘We Built This City’ (Starship) dan beberapa lagu Madonna yang terkenal di tahun 80-an, saat itulah saya berpikir kalau music mereka dipengaruhi oleh alunan-alunan music yang pernah terkenal di tahun 80-an. Namun adanya tambahan berbagai efek futuristik dan beat-beat catchy dalam music mereka seperti dalam “Ambitions” yang membuat mereka menjadi berbeda. “Ambitions” memang bisa bikin kita bergoyang namun bukan untuk jingkrat-jingkrat karena nuansa soul dalam lagu ini yang akan akan menghentikan sepak terjang kamu termasuk saya.

Mystery Jets – Dreaming Of Another World | Single Review - Frontman band, Blaine Harrison, meronta-ronta dengan peralatan dapur, tampak seperti ilmuwan gila dengan rambut putih liar, adalah penampilan Mystery Jets ketika pertama kali muncul di lokasi mendukung konser Arctic Monkeys pada tahun 2006 lalu.

Ayahnya, 55 tahun, selalu ada mendukung mereka. Ia berdiri di belakang Mystery Jets dan membiarkan mereka semua tinggal di rumahnya di Eel Pie Island, lokasi pertunjukan pertama Rolling Stones.

Mereka baru saja merampingkan penampilan mereka dan membuang eksentrisitas. Dimana dulu mereka bermain dengan seperangkat instrumen percobaan yang aneh-aneh, mereka kini menghasilkan sebuah lagu pop yang renyah, punya image dan ayah Henry Harrison tidak lagi bermain dengan mereka.

Single terbaru mereka Dreaming Of Another World sangatlah catchy. Dari intro gitar yang manis dilanjutkan dengan permainan synth yang saling mengait dan bahwa semangat perubahan adalah penting adanya, menghasilkan sebuah lagu yang asyik, menarik, dan mengharukan saat menelurusi setiap liriknya.

Mereka terus menunjukkan bakat untuk menulis lagu dengan sempurna, sebaris lirik sederhana seperti “Spend my days in a dreamy haze,” (“Menghabiskan hari-hariku menerawang kabut”) bisa menjelaskan kecintaan yang tulus dan mendalam untuk musik pop mengalir, dan sepertinya mereka juga mengikuti jejak band-band indie-pop seperti The Hoosiers dan The Kooks dengan lirik lagu yang menyindir.

Dreaming Of Another World memanglah sangat keren lagunya, hook tebal berlapis seperti hit catchy the Cure. Single yang dipersembahkan oleh Mystery Jets ini adalah salah satu lagu favorit saya saat ini. Jika ada yang bilang jelek, maka orang itulah adalah bukan saya.
